Neva is a discus thrower who competes for Belgrave Harriers and is coached by Neville Thompson. She is one of SpeedPro’s most experienced competitors. She has won two national medals in two years, most recently a bronze in the U18 discus at Bedford in 2026 with a personal best of 39.88m.

She knows what it takes to perform on the big stage as a junior, and she uses that experience to help the athletes around her: encouraging them at training, listening when something is not going well, and making sure every athlete has someone to talk to.

SpeedPro athlete Thomas Whorton on the track at the 2026 Surrey County U18 Track and Field Championships
Leadership Group

Thomas Whorton.

Thomas is a middle-distance runner who has won two national indoor 800m silver medals: at U15 in 2024, and at U17 in 2026. His 800m personal best is 1:53.80. He also reached the 800m final at the English Schools Championships.

His route to that second medal included coming back from injury, so he knows that progress is rarely a straight line. He brings that patience to the group, helping younger athletes stay consistent through the long stretches of training between races.

SpeedPro athlete Amelia Barnes with her U16 4x300m relay bronze medal at the 2026 Surrey County Relay Championships
Leadership Group

Amelia Barnes.

Amelia is a sprinter who races from 60m to 300m. She has competed at the Indoor National Championships, and has been part of several record-breaking Hercules Wimbledon relay teams, including the U15 girls’ squad that won Surrey Relay silver with a new club record.

For Amelia, the relays are the best races of the season because they bring everyone together. She brings that team spirit to training, making new athletes feel part of the group from their first session.

SpeedPro athlete Beatrice Eminson on the start line at the 2026 Surrey County Track and Field Championships
Leadership Group

Beatrice Eminson.

Beatrice is an 800m runner. She won 800m silver at the SEAA Indoor Championships, has raced at the Indoor National Championships, and reached the U16 800m final at the 2026 Surrey Championships. She has also run in record-breaking Hercules Wimbledon relay teams.

Beatrice has learned to race with confidence, going out hard and holding on rather than sitting back. She brings that same honesty to the group, setting a standard at training and showing younger athletes what steady progress looks like.

SpeedPro athlete Alex Hughes on the indoor track at Lee Valley during the 2026 indoor season
Leadership Group

Alex Hughes.

Alex is a sprinter who joined SpeedPro at the end of 2025, racing indoors for the first time that December. Within a season he had reached the U16 300m final at the 2026 Surrey Championships.

As one of the group’s more recent arrivals, Alex remembers what it is like to be new. He makes a point of welcoming athletes at their first sessions and helping them settle into the training week.
