Surrey Championships 2026: SpeedPro Delivers Medals and Personal Bests

Story By Coach Bjorn Jansen

The Surrey Championships 2026 delivered another defining weekend for the SpeedPro group. Across two days of competition, athletes produced gold medals, personal bests, club records and a series of performances that underline the depth and ambition running through the programme.

From sprint finals to middle-distance showdowns and field event battles, the Surrey Championships 2026 showed exactly what this group is capable of when it matters most.

Tommaso Crosara Defends His Surrey 300m Title.

Heading into the weekend as reigning champion, Tommaso Crosara produced back-to-back outstanding runs to defend his U16 300m title. On Saturday, he executed his race model with precision, coasting through the heats in a 35.53 personal best. That alone would have been a strong return. However, Sunday brought something even more impressive.

Facing cold and windy conditions from lane 7, Tommaso responded with one of the performances of the championship. He clocked a huge 35.20 personal best to secure gold, a run that moves him to number two in the U16 European rankings and 23rd in the U18 rankings. As the 2025 English Schools and National Champion, Tommaso continues to prove he belongs at the very top of the sport.

His performances at the Surrey Championships 2026 are the latest chapter in what is becoming a remarkable competitive record.

Enzo Hogwood Completes a Sprint Double

Enzo Hogwood was arguably the standout performer across the full weekend. On Saturday, he eased through his U14 200m heat in a 25.24 personal best, before returning later that day with a storming finish to take gold in 24.28.

Sunday brought an entirely different challenge. Navigating three rounds of the U14 100m is a test of both speed and recovery, and Enzo handled it superbly. He secured silver in the final, clocking 12.27, adding a second medal to his collection before the weekend was out.

For an athlete at the U14 level, that kind of output across two days speaks volumes about his growing maturity as a competitor.

Neva Jansen Produces a Silver Medal Display

In the U18 Discus, Neva Jansen led the competition from the opening round with a series of consistent, composed throws. She held the lead going into the final round, only to miss gold by a single centimetre. It was a fine margin between gold and silver, but the quality of her performance should not be understated.

Resilience and composure under pressure are qualities that matter at the championship level. Neva demonstrated both in the Surrey Championships 2026 and her silver medal reflects a competitor ready to challenge at the top end.

Thomas Whorton Sets a New Club Record in the U18 800m

Thomas Whorton entered the U18 800m with his sights on the English Schools standard. Running from the front, he clocked a superb 1:55.09 in the heats, an effort that broke his own Hercules Wimbledon club record by 1.5 seconds. He missed the standard by just 0.09 seconds, a reminder of how fine the margins are at the top level.

Thomas returned the following day to finish fourth in a highly competitive final. The experience and the record will serve him well as the season progresses.

Further Finalists at the Surrey Championships 2026

Several other SpeedPro athletes reached finals and delivered performances that reflect well on the group's continued development.

Holly Townsend finished fourth in the U18 400m, while Beatrice Eminson placed seventh in the U16 800m, and Freya McAndie eighth in the U16 300m. Alex Hughes reached the U16 300m final, finishing sixth and backing that up with a 38.29 personal best in the heats.

Personal Bests Across the Group

Beyond the medals and finals, the Surrey Championships 2026 produced a wave of season and personal bests that highlight the wider strength of the SpeedPro squad. Amelia Barnes ran a 27.40 (SB) in the U16 200m semi-final. Lia Clements recorded 13.79 (SB) in the 100m and 28.57 (PB) in the 200m. Ross Dunipace clocked 26.58 (SB) in the U16 200m, while Leo Ogungbemi ran 40.49 (PB) in the U16 300m. Karim Mroueih set personal bests in both the U14 100m (14.92) and 200m (29.59).

Personal bests at a county championship carry real weight. They signal that athletes are developing at the right time in the competitive calendar.

A Weekend to Build On

The Surrey Championships 2026 was a weekend full of moments that matter. Gold medals for Tommaso and Enzo, a silver for Neva, a club record from Thomas and personal bests throughout the squad. These championships are what a high-performance environment looks like in action.
