Story By Coach Bjorn Jansen
The English Schools Championships delivered another unforgettable weekend of athletics. For SpeedPro’s own Tommaso (Tommy) Crosara, it was the moment of his young career so far. Running in the Junior Boys 300m, Tommy produced two outstanding performances across the semi-final and final to claim the national title.
Semi-Final Performance
The semi-final was always going to be a crucial test. With only the top two guaranteed automatic qualification, Tommy knew he needed to combine composure with aggression. He settled into the race quickly, moving intensely down the back straight. Then he showed his trademark strength in the final 100 metres. Crossing the line in control, he clocked 35.76 seconds. It was one of the fastest times of the round, securing his place in the final. It was the perfect execution — efficient, measured and leaving something in reserve for the big stage the following day.
Delivering in the Final
The final brought together the best athletes in the country at this age group. Each was chasing the prestigious English Schools crown. Tommy remained calm during the build-up, sticking to his race plan. He powered out of the blocks as the gun went, attacking the opening 150 metres with intent while still keeping his rhythm. Coming into the home straight, it was clear that he had positioned himself perfectly.
With 80 metres to go, Tommy began to extend his stride and drive for the line, pulling clear of the field. The Surrey Schools representative crossed in first place in 35.93 seconds. It was a winning time that secured him the English Schools Junior Boys 300m title. This result reflects his hard work in training and his ability to deliver under pressure.
A Championship Milestone
Winning at the English Schools Championships is a defining moment for young athletes. For Tommy, it marks the reward for months of preparation and an exciting glimpse of what lies ahead. His victory is a testament to his dedication and the support of his coaches, training partners and family.
As we look back on the semi-final and final, the two races capture what makes English Schools such a special event. It offers the chance for young athletes to compete at the highest level and showcase their talent on the national stage.
Tommy’s semi-final time of 35.76 seconds currently ranks him number one in the UK for his age group. He also ranks 16th on the UK all-time list. His Junior Boys 300m title underlines his championship quality and the scale of his potential for the future.
