Story By Bjorn Jansen
What a night! This is how we should all experience athletics at this level. Presented by Highgate Harriers, the Night of the 10k PBs is not just a night of entertainment but a thrilling spectacle that captivates the whole family. It's a platform for our Junior Athletes to shine in the 800m races, the biggest event of their season. The atmosphere was charged with electricity, filled with anticipation and excitement, making it an unforgettable experience for all.
For the SpeedPro coaching group, it is rewarding to have two athletes competing at this level and to experience first-hand what the professionals go through when they compete, which is second to none.
Isabella Harrison returned to the Night of the 10k PBs in U15 800m, wanting to produce a performance that would move her up the UK rankings. Isabella had been showing that she was starting to come into form over the half-mile in training during the week, and she did. Isabella finished 3rd in a personal best time of 2:12.37, 2 seconds quicker than the week before at Surrey Champs and moving her to 4th in the 800m UK rankings.
Thomas Whorton was experiencing the Night of the 10k PBs for the first time, competing in the U15 800m. It was only his third outdoor race this season after winning a silver medal at the national indoors in February. Despite minimal training over the past three weeks due to injuries, Thomas aimed for an outdoor season's best. He finished 6th in a season's best time of 2:03.76, close to his indoor personal best of 2:03.31 set in February. Thomas's performance indicates more to come from him this season.
