Story By Neva Jansen
It was a great weekend at the Hercules Open Meet on the 13th of April, where all SpeedPro athletes had a great season opener. However, one athlete in particular had a fantastic race. Beatrice Eminson, a first-year U15, competed in her first race of the season and ran a 9-second PB, which puts her new PB at 2:22.90. Beatrice ran an incredible race where she led the whole way, and I managed to catch up with her afterwards about how the race went.
Neva: Well done on a fantastic race, Beatrice. How did the race feel, and how well did you think it went besides a massive PB?
Beatrice: “Well, on the first lap, I felt really good, and I went off pretty fast, and I also still felt pretty good on the second lap. Then, in the last 50m, I had another level in me and started sprinting at the end. My legs felt fine, and it wasn’t too bad overall.”
Neva: What races this season are you most looking forward to?
Beatrice: “I’m looking forward to Surrey Champs, where I hope to make the final and get close to a medal. I also hope to get as close to the English Schools standard of 2 minutes and 18 seconds.”
Neva: This is a great season opener for you. What are your goals for this season following this race?
Beatrice: “I’m hoping to get close to 2 minutes and 20 seconds or under, which would be great. I’d also like to get a medal at Surrey Champs, which will probably be pretty hard, but I’ll give it a good shot. Also, I’d like to finish second at a London Schools, hopefully.”
Neva: What did you take away from the race apart from a PB?
Beatrice: “It’s good to start fast because I used to just pace it. I went 66 seconds for the first lap and managed to hold it, so I think I’ll go off faster in other races.”
Beatrice has already shown some excellent progress from the previous season, and we look forward to seeing how Beatrice and the rest of the Speed Pro athletes continue to progress in the outdoor season 2024.
