Thomas Whorton securing a bronze medal in Milton Keynes:
On the weekend of March 23rd, Thomas Whorton competed at the U15 SEAA 5Km Road Championships in Milton Keynes. He walked away happy with a third-place medal and a one-minute personal best of 16 minutes and 40 seconds. After a fantastic race, he also secured the u15 Hercules club record, which was previously 18 minutes and 55 seconds.
The race was very close and challenging, with an undulating course. Nevertheless, he gained the bronze medal with only 6 seconds between him and the 1st-place medallist and merely a second behind the 2nd-place medallist. It was a close race between the top four, but Thomas was delighted with his efforts and medal and looks forward to a great outdoor season.
A long jump medal for Olly Mealor and PB’s at Surrey Indoor Champs:
At the David Weir Centre in Carshalton on the weekend of the 9th of March, Oliver Mealor, Amelia Barnes, and Soraya Stevens competed at the Surrey Indoor Championships. Olly had a fantastic competition, securing a silver medal in the long jump. Olly, who, coming back from a broken leg in October, managed to come out and not only get a 2nd place medal but also a new PB of 5.43m. It was a very close competition and was a good opener for Olly’s season, as I am sure he will be chasing the u15 Hercules club record of 6.62m.
Olly also competed in the 60m, where he made it to the Semi-finals with a PB of 8.03 seconds. As well as Olly in the semi–finals, we had Amelia advance to the u15 girls semi–finals with a new PB of 8.38 seconds. Amelia will be looking forward to a great first year in the u15 age category, with many more PBs to come this season. A new 60m PB was also set by Soraya, with a fantastic time of 8.94 seconds, and I’m also sure it’s a great season to follow this PB.
It has been a busy month for Speed Pro athletes, and we are looking forward to a great, rewarding, and fun outdoor season starting in the upcoming weeks.
